Vivimos en el Ciberespacio, estamos en todos lados, no conocemos límites. Éste es nuestro manifiesto. El manifiesto de los Ciberpunks.
I.Cyberpunk
1/ Esos somos nosotros, lo Diferente. Ratas de la tecnología, nadando en el océano de la información.
2/ Estamos cohibidos, pequeños chicos de colegio, sentados en el último pupitre, en la esquina de la clase.
3/ Somos el adolescente que todos consideran extraño.
4/ Estamos estudiando hackear sistemas operativos, explorando la profundidad de su extremos.
5/ Nos criamos en el parque, sentados en un banco, con un ordenador portátil apoyado en las rodillas, programando la última realidad virtual.
6/ Lo nuestro está en el garage, apilado con la porquería electrónica. El hierro soldado en la esquina de la mesa y cercana a la radio desmontada- eso es lo nuestro. Lo nuestro es una habitación con ordenadores, impresoras zumbeantes y modems pitando.
7/ Somos aquellos que vemos la realidad de forma distinta. Nuestro punto de vista muestra más de lo que la gente ordinaria puede ver. Ellos solo ven lo exterior, pero nosotros vemos lo interior. Eso es lo que somos- realistas con gafas de soñadores.
8/ Somos aquellas personas casi desconocidas para el vecindario. Personas, entregadas a sus propios pensamientos, sentadas día tras día ante el ordenador, saqueando la Red por algo. No salimos frecuentemente de casa, solo de vez en cuando para ir al cercano estudio de radio, o a un conocido bar a encontrarse a algunos de los pocos amigos que tenemos, o encontrarnos a algún cliente, o al camello de la esquina,... o simplemente para dar un paseo.
9/ No tenemos muchos amigos, sólo unos pocos con los que nos vamos de fiesta. Todos los demás que conocemos están en la Red, en el otro lado de la línea. Los conocemos de nuestro canal favorito de IRC, de los newsgroups, de los sistemas que frecuentamos.
10/ Nosotros somos aquellos los que nos importa una mierda lo que los demás piensen de nosotros, no nos importa lo que aparentamos o lo que la gente diga sobre nosotros en nuestra ausencia.
11/ La mayoría de nosotros viven escondidos, siendo desconocidos para todos menos a aquellos que inevitablemente están en contacto con ellos.
12/ Otros aman la publicidad, ellos aman la fama. Ellos son conocidos en su mundo underground. Sus nombres se escuchan con facilidad allí. Pero todos unidos somos una sola cosa- nosotros somos los cyberpunks.
13/ La sociedad no nos entiende, somos los "raros" y los "locos", personas que a ojos de la gente normal que viven lejos de la información y las ideas libres. La sociedad niega nuestra manera de pensar- una sociedad, viviendo, pensando y respirando de una única manera- un tópico.
14/ Ellos nos desprecian porque pensamos de forma libre, y el pensamiento libre está prohibido.
15/ El cyberpunk tiene una apariencia externa, el carece de movimiento. Los cyberpunks son personas que, comienzan desde lo normal y saben lo que todos conocen, hasta el artista "tecnomaníaco", hasta el músico que toca música electrónica, a los superficiales escolares.
16/ El cyberpunk ya no es un genero de literatura, tampoco es una ordinaria subcultura. El cyberpunk es en si misma una nueva cultura, hijos de la nueva era. Una cultura que une todos nuestro intereses comunes y vistas. Nosotros estamos unidos. Nosotros somos los cyberpunks.
II. Sociedad
1/ La sociedad la que nos rodea está atascada en el conservadorismo y en el "todo para ellos", mientras se hunde lentamente en las arenas movedizas del tiempo.
2/ Sin embargo, algunos obstinados rehusan a creer esto, lo obvio es que vivimos en una sociedad podrida. Las llamadas reformas que nuestros gobiernos utilizan para enorgullecerse, no son más que un pequeño paso adelante, que podrían ser hechas más satisfactoriamente con un salto.
3/ La gente teme lo nuevo y lo desconocido. Ellos prefieren lo antiguo, lo conocido y lo que ellos mismos han comprobado. Ellos temen lo que lo nuevo pueda acaecerles. Ellos temen perder lo que ya tienen.
4/ Su temor es tan fuerte que esto es proclamado enemigo revolucionario e idea liberal- es un arma. Este es su error.
5/ Las personas deben dejar sus temores atrás y seguir adelante. En el sentido de que lo poco que ahora tengas podrá multiplicarse en el mañana. Todo lo que ellos tienen que hacer es cerrar sus puños y sentir lo nuevo; dar libertad a los pensamientos, ideas, a las palabras:
6/ Durante siglos las generaciones han sido educadas de una misma manera. Los ideales son lo que todos buscan. Se olvida la individualidad. La gente piensa de una misma forma, siguiendo un modelo impuesto en ellos desde su juventud, la "educación-modelo" para todos los niños : y, cuando alguno se atreve desafiar la autoridad, es castigado. " Esto es lo que pasa cuando expresas tu propia opinión y esta es diferente a la del profesor ".
7/ Nuestra sociedad está enferma y necesita ser curada. La cura es un cambio en el sistema....
III. El Sistema
1/ El Sistema. Con siglos de antigüedad, basada en principios que no son validos actualmente. Un sistema que no ha cambiado mucho desde su nacimiento.
2/ El Sistema está equivocado.
3/ El Sistema debe imponer su verdad sobre la nuestra para poder mandar. El gobierno necesita que nosotros la sigamos ciegamente. Por esta razón, vivimos en un eclipse informativo. Cuando las personas adquieren más información de la que da el gobierno, no pueden distiguir cuál es correcta y cuál no. Así que la mentira se hace verdad- una verdad, fundamental para todo lo demás. Así los líderes controlan con mentiras a la gente ordinaria que carecen de la noción de cual es la verdad y ciegamente siguen al gobierno, creyéndolos.
4/ Nosotros luchamos para liberar la información. Nosotros combatimos por la libertad de expresión y de prensa. Por la libertad de expresar nuestros pensamientos libremente, sin ser perseguidos por el Sistema.
5/ Incluso en los países más democráticos y desarrollados que pretenden ser la cuna de la libertad de expresión. La mala información es una de las principales armas del Sistema. Un arma que ellos dominan muy bien.
6/ La Red es la que nosayuda a expandir nuestros pensamientos libremente. La Red sin barreras ni limites de información.
7/ Lo nuestro es tuyo, lo tuyo es nuestro.
8/ Todo el mundo puede compartir la información, sin restricciones.
9/ La encriptación de información es nuestra arma. Así las palabras de la revolución pueden expandirse ininterrumpidamente, y el gobierno sólo puede intentar adivinar. 10/ La Red es nuestra esencia, en la Red somos los reyes.
11/ Leyes. El mundo está cambiando, pero las leyes son las mismas. El Sistema no está cambiando, sólo unos pocos rasgos para revestirse a los nuevos tiempos, pero en el fondo es todo lo mismo.
12/ Nosotros necesitamos nuevas leyes. Leyes, que se ajusten a los tiempos en que vivimos, con el mundo que nos rodea. No leyes construidas en las bases del pasado. Leyes, para hoy, leyes, que se ajusten al mañana.
13/ Las leyes que sólo se refieren a nosotros. Leyes que desesperadamente necesitan revisión.
IV. La Visión
1/ A algunas personas no les importa lo que sucede en el mundo. A ellos les importa lo que suceden en su alrededor, en su micro-universo.
2/ Estas personas sólo pueden ver un futuro oscuro, porque ellos sólo ven la vida de ellos mismos ahora.
3/ Otras personas, se muestran más conscientes en lo que ocurra globalmente. Ellos están interesados en todo, en la perspectiva del futuro, en lo que va a pasar en el mundo.
4/ Ellos tienen una actitud más optimista. Para ellos el futuro es limpio y más bonito, pueden ver en esto a un hombre más maduro en un mundo más amplio.
5/ Nosotros estamos en el medio. Estamos interesados en lo que ocurre ahora y en lo que va a ocurrir el día de mañana.
6/ Observamos la Red, y la Red esta creciendo y siendo más amplia.
7/ Pronto todo en este mundo será absorbido por la Red: desde los sistemas militares hasta el PC de casa.
8/ Pero la Red es la casa de la Anarquía.
9/ No puede ser controlada y en eso radica su poder.
10/ Cada hombre será independiente en la Red.
11/ Toda la información estará aquí, cerrada en el abismo de ceros y unos.
12/ El que controla la Red, controla la información.
13/ Vivimos en una mezcla del pasado y el presente.
14/ El mal proviene del hombre y el bien de la tecnología.
15/ La Red controlará al pequeño individuo y nosotros controlaremos la Red.
16/ Pero, si tu no controlas, serás controlado.
17/ La información es el PODER!
V. ¿ Dónde estamos ?
1/ ¿Dónde estamos?
2/ Todos nosotros vivimos en un mundo enfermo, donde el odio es un arma y la paz un sueño.
3/ El mundo crece lentamente. Es difícil para un cyberpunk vivir en un mundo subdesarrollado, con gente alrededor suya que observan su fuerte desarrollo
4/ Nosotros vamos hacia adelante, y ellos nos empujan hacia atrás. La sociedad nos suprime. Sí, suprimen la libertad de pensamiento. Con crueles programas de educación en colegios y universidades. Machacan a los niños con sus puntos de vista y castigan y niegan todo intento diferente.
5/ Nuestros hijos crecen educados en este viejo y aún no cambiado sistema. Un sistema que no tolera la libertad de pensamiento y demanda una estricta obediencia a las reglas...
6/ Viviríamos en un mundo muy distinto de este si las personas hicieran escalones y no huecos.
7/ Es difícil vivir en este mundo, cyberpunk.
8/ Es como si se hubiera detenido el tiempo.
9/ Vivimos en el lugar correcto pero no en el tiempo correcto.
10/ Todo es tan ordinario, la gente es la misma, sus actos también lo son. Como si la sociedad sintiera una necesitad intensa de vivir atrás en el tiempo.
11/ Algunos intentan encontrar su propio mundo, el mundo Cyberpunk, y encontrándolo, construyen su mundo. Construyen sus pensamientos que cambian la realidad, se entregan a estos y viven en un mundo virtual. Los inventos, crean la realidad :
12/ Otros, en cambio, se acostumbran el mundo tal y como es. Ellos siguen viviendo en el, aunque no les guste. Ellos no tienen otra elección que esperar que el mundo se mantenga bien y siga hacia adelante
13/ Lo que intentamos hacer es cambiar la situación. Estamos intentando ajustar el mundo presente a nuestras necesidades y visiones. Para adecuarlo a su máxima función y olvidar la basura. Cuando nosotros no podemos, simplemente vivimos en este mundo, como los cyberpunks, no importa lo difícil que sea, cuando luche la sociedad nosotros los contrarrestaremos.
14/ Nosotros construimos nuestros mundos en el Cyberespacio.
15/ Un montón de ceros y unos, un montón de bits de información.
16/ Construimos nuestra comunidad.

We are the ELECTRONIC MINDS, a group of free-minded rebels.
Cyberpunks.
We live in Cyberspace, we are everywhere, we know no boundaries. This is our manifest. The Cyberpunks' manifest.
I. Cyberpunk
1/ We are those, the Different. Technological rats, swimming in the ocean of information. 2/ We are the retiring, little kid at school, sitting at the last desk, in the corner of the class room. 3/ We are the teenager everybody considers strange 4/ We are the student hacking computer systems, exploring the depth of his reach. 5/ We are the grown-up in the park, sitting on a bench, laptop on his knees, programming the last virtual reality. 6/ Ours is the garage, stuffed with electronics. The soldering iron in the corner of the desk and the nearby disassembled radio- they are also ours. Ours is the cellar with computers, buzzing printers and beeping modems 7/ We are those that see reality in a different way. Our point of view shows more than ordinary people can see. They see only what is outside, but we see what is inside. That's what we are - realists with the glasses of dreamers. 8/ We are those strange people, almost unknown to the neighborhood. People, indulged in their own thoughts, sitting day after day before the computer, ransacking the net for something. We are not often out of home, just from time to time, only to go to the nearby radio shack, or to the usual bar to meet some of the few friends we have, or to meet a client, or to the backstreet druggist... or just for a little walk. 9/ We do not have many friends, only a few with whom we go to parties. Everybody else we know we know on the net. Our real friends are there, on the other side of the line. We know them from our favorite IRC channel, from the News-Groups, from the systems we hang-around: 10/ We are those who don't give a shit about what people think about us, we don't care what we look like or what people talk about us in our absence. 11/ The majority of us likes to live in hiding, being unknown to everybody except those few we must inevitably contact with. 12/ Others love publicity, they love fame. They are all known in the underground world. Their names are often heard there. But we are all united by one thing - we are Cyberpunks. 13/ Society does not understand us, we are "weird" and "crazy" people in the eyes of the ordinary people who live far from information and free ideas. Society denies our way of thinking - a society, living, thinking and breathing in one and only one way - a cliche. 14/ They deny us for we think like free people, and free thinking is forbidden. 15/ The Cyberpunk has outer appearance, he is no motion. Cyberpunks are people, starting from the ordinary and known to nobody person, to the artist-technomaniac, to the musician, playing electronic music, to the superficial scholar. 16/ The Cyberpunk is no literature genre anymore, not even an ordinary subculture. The Cyberpunk is a stand-alone new culture, offspring of the new age. A culture that unites our common interests and views. We are a unit. We are Cyberpunks.
II. Society 1/ The Society which surrounds us is clogged with concervacy pulling everything and everybody to itself, while it sinks slowly in the quicksands of time. 2/ However doggedly some refuse to believe it, it is obvious that we live in a sick society. The so called reforms which our governments so adeptly use to boast, are nothing else but a little step forward, when a whole jump can be done. 3/ People fear the new and unknown. They prefer the old, the known and checked truths. They are afraid of what the new can bring to them. They are afraid that they can lose what they have 4/ Their fear is so strong that it has proclaimed the revolutional a foe and a the free idea - its weapon. That's their fault. 5/ People must leave this fear behind and go ahead. What's the sense to stick to the little you have now when you can have more tomorrow. Everything they must do is stretch their hands and feel for the new; give freedom to thoughts, ideas, to words: 6/ For centuries each generation has been brought up is a same pattern. Ideals is what everybody follows. Individuality is forgotten. People think in a same way, following the clichc drilled in them in childhood, the clichc-education for all children: And, when someone dares defy authority, he is punished and given as a bad example. "Here is what happens to you when you express your own opinion and deny your teacher's one". 7/ Our society is sick and need to be healed. The cure is a change in the system...
III. The System 1/ The System. Centuries-old, existing on principles that hang no more today. A System that has not changed much since the day of its birth: 2/ The System is wrong. 3/ The System must impose its truth upon us so that it can rule. The government needs us follow it blindly. For this reason we live in an informational eclipse. When people acquire information other that that from the government, they cannot distinguish the right from the wrong. So the lie becomes a truth - a truth, fundamental to everything else. Thus the leaders control with lies and the ordinary people have no notion of what is true and follow the government blindly, trusting it. 4/ We fight for freedom of information. We fight for freedom of speech and press. For the freedom to express our thoughts freely, without being persecuted by the system. 5/ Even in the most-developed and 'democratic' countries, the system imposes misinformation. Even in the countries that pretend to be the cradle of free speech. Misinformation is one of the system's main weapon. A weapon, they use very well. 6/ It is the Net that helps us spread the information freely. The Net, with no boundaries and information limit 7/ Ours is yours, yours is ours. 8/ Everyone can share information, no restrictions. 9/ Encrypting of informattion is our weapon. Thus the words of revolution can spread uninterrupted, and the government can only guess. 10/ The Net is our realm, in the Net we are Kings. 11/ Laws. The world is changing, but the laws remain the same. The System is not changing, only a few details get redressed for the new time, but everything in the concept remains the same. 12/ We need new laws. Laws, fitting the times we live in, with the world that surrounds us. Not laws build on the basis of the past. Laws, build for today, laws, that will fit tomorrow. 13/ The laws that only refrain us. Laws that badly need revision.
IV. The vision 1/ Some people do not care much about what happens globally. They care about what happens around them, in their micro-universe. 2/ These people can only see a dark future, for they can only see the life they live now. 3/ Others show some concern about the global affairs. They are interested in everything,in the future in perspective, in what is going to happen globally. 4/ They have a more optimistic view. To them the future is cleaner and more beautiful, for they can see into it and they see a more mature man, a wiser world. 5/ We are in the middle. We are interested in what happens now, but what in what's gonna happen tomorow as well. 6/ We look in the net, and the net is growing wide and wider. 7/ Soon everything in this world will be swallowed by the net: from the military systems to the PC at home. 8/ But the net is a house of anarchy. 9/ It cannot be controlled and in this is its power. 10/ Every man will be dependent on the net. 11/ The whole information will be there, locked in the abysses of zeros and ones. 12/ Who controls the net, controls the information. 13/ We will live in a mixture of past and present. 14/ The bad come from the man, and the good comes from technology. 15/ The net will control the little man, and we will control the net. 16/ For is you do not control, you will be controlled. 17/ The Information is POWER!
V. Where are we? 1/ Where are we? 2/ We all live in a sick world, where hatred is a weapon, and freedom - a dream. 3/ The world grows so slowly. It is hard for a Cyberpunk to live in an underdeveloped world, looking the people around him, seeing how wrongly they develop. 4/ We go ahead, they pull us back again. Society suppressses us. Yes, it suppresses the freedom of thought. With its cruel education programs in schools and universities. They drill in the children their view of things and every attempt to express a different opinion is denied and punished. 5/ Our kids grow educated in this old and still unchanged system. A system that tolerates no freedom of thought and demands a strict obeyance to the rules... 6/ In what a worlds, how different from this, could we live now, if people were making jumps and not creeps. 7/ It is so hard to live in this world, Cyberpunk. 8/ It is as if time has stopped. 9/ We live on the right spot, but not in the right time. 10/ Everything is so ordinary, people are all the same, their deeds toos. As if society feels an urgent need to live back in time. 11/ Some, trying to find their own world, the world of a Cyberpunk, and finding it, build their own world. Build in their thoughts, it changes reality, lays over it and thus they live in a virtual world. The thought-up, build upon reality: 12/ Others simply get accustomed to the world as it is. They continue to live in it, although they dislike it. They have no other choice but the bare hope that the world will go out of its hollow and will go ahead. 13/ What we are trying to do is change the situation. We are trying to adjust the present world to our needs and views. To use maximally what is fit and to ignore the trash. Where we can't, we just live in this world, like Cyberpunks, no matter how hard, when society fights us we fight back. 14/ We build our worlds in Cyberspace. 15/ Among the zeros and ones, among the bits of information. 16/ We build our community.

1/ El Sistema. Con siglos de antigüedad, basada en principios que no son validos actualmente. Un sistema que no ha cambiado mucho desde su nacimiento.
2/ El Sistema está equivocado.
3/ El Sistema debe imponer su verdad sobre la nuestra para poder mandar. El gobierno necesita que nosotros la sigamos ciegamente. Por esta razón, vivimos en un eclipse informativo. Cuando las personas adquieren más información de la que da el gobierno, no pueden distiguir cuál es correcta y cuál no. Así que la mentira se hace verdad- una verdad, fundamental para todo lo demás. Así los líderes controlan con mentiras a la gente ordinaria que carecen de la noción de cual es la verdad y ciegamente siguen al gobierno, creyéndolos.
4/ Nosotros luchamos para liberar la información. Nosotros combatimos por la libertad de expresión y de prensa. Por la libertad de expresar nuestros pensamientos libremente, sin ser perseguidos por el Sistema.
5/ Incluso en los países más democráticos y desarrollados que pretenden ser la cuna de la libertad de expresión. La mala información es una de las principales armas del Sistema. Un arma que ellos dominan muy bien.
6/ La Red es la que nosayuda a expandir nuestros pensamientos libremente. La Red sin barreras ni limites de información.
7/ Lo nuestro es tuyo, lo tuyo es nuestro.
8/ Todo el mundo puede compartir la información, sin restricciones.
9/ La encriptación de información es nuestra arma. Así las palabras de la revolución pueden expandirse ininterrumpidamente, y el gobierno sólo puede intentar adivinar. 10/ La Red es nuestra esencia, en la Red somos los reyes.
11/ Leyes. El mundo está cambiando, pero las leyes son las mismas. El Sistema no está cambiando, sólo unos pocos rasgos para revestirse a los nuevos tiempos, pero en el fondo es todo lo mismo.
12/ Nosotros necesitamos nuevas leyes. Leyes, que se ajusten a los tiempos en que vivimos, con el mundo que nos rodea. No leyes construidas en las bases del pasado. Leyes, para hoy, leyes, que se ajusten al mañana.
13/ Las leyes que sólo se refieren a nosotros. Leyes que desesperadamente necesitan revisión.
IV. La Visión
1/ A algunas personas no les importa lo que sucede en el mundo. A ellos les importa lo que suceden en su alrededor, en su micro-universo.
2/ Estas personas sólo pueden ver un futuro oscuro, porque ellos sólo ven la vida de ellos mismos ahora.
3/ Otras personas, se muestran más conscientes en lo que ocurra globalmente. Ellos están interesados en todo, en la perspectiva del futuro, en lo que va a pasar en el mundo.
4/ Ellos tienen una actitud más optimista. Para ellos el futuro es limpio y más bonito, pueden ver en esto a un hombre más maduro en un mundo más amplio.
5/ Nosotros estamos en el medio. Estamos interesados en lo que ocurre ahora y en lo que va a ocurrir el día de mañana.
6/ Observamos la Red, y la Red esta creciendo y siendo más amplia.
7/ Pronto todo en este mundo será absorbido por la Red: desde los sistemas militares hasta el PC de casa.
8/ Pero la Red es la casa de la Anarquía.
9/ No puede ser controlada y en eso radica su poder.
10/ Cada hombre será independiente en la Red.
11/ Toda la información estará aquí, cerrada en el abismo de ceros y unos.
12/ El que controla la Red, controla la información.
13/ Vivimos en una mezcla del pasado y el presente.
14/ El mal proviene del hombre y el bien de la tecnología.
15/ La Red controlará al pequeño individuo y nosotros controlaremos la Red.
16/ Pero, si tu no controlas, serás controlado.
17/ La información es el PODER!
V. ¿ Dónde estamos ?
1/ ¿Dónde estamos?
2/ Todos nosotros vivimos en un mundo enfermo, donde el odio es un arma y la paz un sueño.
3/ El mundo crece lentamente. Es difícil para un cyberpunk vivir en un mundo subdesarrollado, con gente alrededor suya que observan su fuerte desarrollo
4/ Nosotros vamos hacia adelante, y ellos nos empujan hacia atrás. La sociedad nos suprime. Sí, suprimen la libertad de pensamiento. Con crueles programas de educación en colegios y universidades. Machacan a los niños con sus puntos de vista y castigan y niegan todo intento diferente.
5/ Nuestros hijos crecen educados en este viejo y aún no cambiado sistema. Un sistema que no tolera la libertad de pensamiento y demanda una estricta obediencia a las reglas...
6/ Viviríamos en un mundo muy distinto de este si las personas hicieran escalones y no huecos.
7/ Es difícil vivir en este mundo, cyberpunk.
8/ Es como si se hubiera detenido el tiempo.
9/ Vivimos en el lugar correcto pero no en el tiempo correcto.
10/ Todo es tan ordinario, la gente es la misma, sus actos también lo son. Como si la sociedad sintiera una necesitad intensa de vivir atrás en el tiempo.
11/ Algunos intentan encontrar su propio mundo, el mundo Cyberpunk, y encontrándolo, construyen su mundo. Construyen sus pensamientos que cambian la realidad, se entregan a estos y viven en un mundo virtual. Los inventos, crean la realidad :
12/ Otros, en cambio, se acostumbran el mundo tal y como es. Ellos siguen viviendo en el, aunque no les guste. Ellos no tienen otra elección que esperar que el mundo se mantenga bien y siga hacia adelante
13/ Lo que intentamos hacer es cambiar la situación. Estamos intentando ajustar el mundo presente a nuestras necesidades y visiones. Para adecuarlo a su máxima función y olvidar la basura. Cuando nosotros no podemos, simplemente vivimos en este mundo, como los cyberpunks, no importa lo difícil que sea, cuando luche la sociedad nosotros los contrarrestaremos.
14/ Nosotros construimos nuestros mundos en el Cyberespacio.
15/ Un montón de ceros y unos, un montón de bits de información.
16/ Construimos nuestra comunidad.

We are the ELECTRONIC MINDS, a group of free-minded rebels.
Cyberpunks.
We live in Cyberspace, we are everywhere, we know no boundaries. This is our manifest. The Cyberpunks' manifest.
I. Cyberpunk
1/ We are those, the Different. Technological rats, swimming in the ocean of information. 2/ We are the retiring, little kid at school, sitting at the last desk, in the corner of the class room. 3/ We are the teenager everybody considers strange 4/ We are the student hacking computer systems, exploring the depth of his reach. 5/ We are the grown-up in the park, sitting on a bench, laptop on his knees, programming the last virtual reality. 6/ Ours is the garage, stuffed with electronics. The soldering iron in the corner of the desk and the nearby disassembled radio- they are also ours. Ours is the cellar with computers, buzzing printers and beeping modems 7/ We are those that see reality in a different way. Our point of view shows more than ordinary people can see. They see only what is outside, but we see what is inside. That's what we are - realists with the glasses of dreamers. 8/ We are those strange people, almost unknown to the neighborhood. People, indulged in their own thoughts, sitting day after day before the computer, ransacking the net for something. We are not often out of home, just from time to time, only to go to the nearby radio shack, or to the usual bar to meet some of the few friends we have, or to meet a client, or to the backstreet druggist... or just for a little walk. 9/ We do not have many friends, only a few with whom we go to parties. Everybody else we know we know on the net. Our real friends are there, on the other side of the line. We know them from our favorite IRC channel, from the News-Groups, from the systems we hang-around: 10/ We are those who don't give a shit about what people think about us, we don't care what we look like or what people talk about us in our absence. 11/ The majority of us likes to live in hiding, being unknown to everybody except those few we must inevitably contact with. 12/ Others love publicity, they love fame. They are all known in the underground world. Their names are often heard there. But we are all united by one thing - we are Cyberpunks. 13/ Society does not understand us, we are "weird" and "crazy" people in the eyes of the ordinary people who live far from information and free ideas. Society denies our way of thinking - a society, living, thinking and breathing in one and only one way - a cliche. 14/ They deny us for we think like free people, and free thinking is forbidden. 15/ The Cyberpunk has outer appearance, he is no motion. Cyberpunks are people, starting from the ordinary and known to nobody person, to the artist-technomaniac, to the musician, playing electronic music, to the superficial scholar. 16/ The Cyberpunk is no literature genre anymore, not even an ordinary subculture. The Cyberpunk is a stand-alone new culture, offspring of the new age. A culture that unites our common interests and views. We are a unit. We are Cyberpunks.
II. Society 1/ The Society which surrounds us is clogged with concervacy pulling everything and everybody to itself, while it sinks slowly in the quicksands of time. 2/ However doggedly some refuse to believe it, it is obvious that we live in a sick society. The so called reforms which our governments so adeptly use to boast, are nothing else but a little step forward, when a whole jump can be done. 3/ People fear the new and unknown. They prefer the old, the known and checked truths. They are afraid of what the new can bring to them. They are afraid that they can lose what they have 4/ Their fear is so strong that it has proclaimed the revolutional a foe and a the free idea - its weapon. That's their fault. 5/ People must leave this fear behind and go ahead. What's the sense to stick to the little you have now when you can have more tomorrow. Everything they must do is stretch their hands and feel for the new; give freedom to thoughts, ideas, to words: 6/ For centuries each generation has been brought up is a same pattern. Ideals is what everybody follows. Individuality is forgotten. People think in a same way, following the clichc drilled in them in childhood, the clichc-education for all children: And, when someone dares defy authority, he is punished and given as a bad example. "Here is what happens to you when you express your own opinion and deny your teacher's one". 7/ Our society is sick and need to be healed. The cure is a change in the system...
III. The System 1/ The System. Centuries-old, existing on principles that hang no more today. A System that has not changed much since the day of its birth: 2/ The System is wrong. 3/ The System must impose its truth upon us so that it can rule. The government needs us follow it blindly. For this reason we live in an informational eclipse. When people acquire information other that that from the government, they cannot distinguish the right from the wrong. So the lie becomes a truth - a truth, fundamental to everything else. Thus the leaders control with lies and the ordinary people have no notion of what is true and follow the government blindly, trusting it. 4/ We fight for freedom of information. We fight for freedom of speech and press. For the freedom to express our thoughts freely, without being persecuted by the system. 5/ Even in the most-developed and 'democratic' countries, the system imposes misinformation. Even in the countries that pretend to be the cradle of free speech. Misinformation is one of the system's main weapon. A weapon, they use very well. 6/ It is the Net that helps us spread the information freely. The Net, with no boundaries and information limit 7/ Ours is yours, yours is ours. 8/ Everyone can share information, no restrictions. 9/ Encrypting of informattion is our weapon. Thus the words of revolution can spread uninterrupted, and the government can only guess. 10/ The Net is our realm, in the Net we are Kings. 11/ Laws. The world is changing, but the laws remain the same. The System is not changing, only a few details get redressed for the new time, but everything in the concept remains the same. 12/ We need new laws. Laws, fitting the times we live in, with the world that surrounds us. Not laws build on the basis of the past. Laws, build for today, laws, that will fit tomorrow. 13/ The laws that only refrain us. Laws that badly need revision.
IV. The vision 1/ Some people do not care much about what happens globally. They care about what happens around them, in their micro-universe. 2/ These people can only see a dark future, for they can only see the life they live now. 3/ Others show some concern about the global affairs. They are interested in everything,in the future in perspective, in what is going to happen globally. 4/ They have a more optimistic view. To them the future is cleaner and more beautiful, for they can see into it and they see a more mature man, a wiser world. 5/ We are in the middle. We are interested in what happens now, but what in what's gonna happen tomorow as well. 6/ We look in the net, and the net is growing wide and wider. 7/ Soon everything in this world will be swallowed by the net: from the military systems to the PC at home. 8/ But the net is a house of anarchy. 9/ It cannot be controlled and in this is its power. 10/ Every man will be dependent on the net. 11/ The whole information will be there, locked in the abysses of zeros and ones. 12/ Who controls the net, controls the information. 13/ We will live in a mixture of past and present. 14/ The bad come from the man, and the good comes from technology. 15/ The net will control the little man, and we will control the net. 16/ For is you do not control, you will be controlled. 17/ The Information is POWER!
V. Where are we? 1/ Where are we? 2/ We all live in a sick world, where hatred is a weapon, and freedom - a dream. 3/ The world grows so slowly. It is hard for a Cyberpunk to live in an underdeveloped world, looking the people around him, seeing how wrongly they develop. 4/ We go ahead, they pull us back again. Society suppressses us. Yes, it suppresses the freedom of thought. With its cruel education programs in schools and universities. They drill in the children their view of things and every attempt to express a different opinion is denied and punished. 5/ Our kids grow educated in this old and still unchanged system. A system that tolerates no freedom of thought and demands a strict obeyance to the rules... 6/ In what a worlds, how different from this, could we live now, if people were making jumps and not creeps. 7/ It is so hard to live in this world, Cyberpunk. 8/ It is as if time has stopped. 9/ We live on the right spot, but not in the right time. 10/ Everything is so ordinary, people are all the same, their deeds toos. As if society feels an urgent need to live back in time. 11/ Some, trying to find their own world, the world of a Cyberpunk, and finding it, build their own world. Build in their thoughts, it changes reality, lays over it and thus they live in a virtual world. The thought-up, build upon reality: 12/ Others simply get accustomed to the world as it is. They continue to live in it, although they dislike it. They have no other choice but the bare hope that the world will go out of its hollow and will go ahead. 13/ What we are trying to do is change the situation. We are trying to adjust the present world to our needs and views. To use maximally what is fit and to ignore the trash. Where we can't, we just live in this world, like Cyberpunks, no matter how hard, when society fights us we fight back. 14/ We build our worlds in Cyberspace. 15/ Among the zeros and ones, among the bits of information. 16/ We build our community.
